chalmers sits down at his job interview, adjusting his tie nervously. “why don’t you start off by telling me some of your interests” the interviewer asks disinterestedly, not looking up from his disorganized jumble of papers. “oh!” chalmers replies, excited. “well, I’m into jokes, goofs, and japes, I’m getting into larfs and clownery, I’m not so much into shenanigans anymore.”
“uh-” the interviewer tries to interject, but chalmers continues. “I’ve kind of lost interest in gags, but I’m still up for the occasional pun,” he continues, ignoring the interviewer shifting uncomfortably in his seat. “it’s a little out of my league but I’m trying to work up to witticism, but until then I’m content with buffoonery and jests.” the interviewer is silent, staring ahead dead-eyed. “I think larks are really overrated, personally. I much prefer a good bout of whimsy. I think wisecracks get a bad rap, but they really have a lot of potential.” the interviewer has left long ago
